How to Apply For an Assistant Leader Position

Now that you have successfully completed your Brigade camp, you are probably wondering how you can earn the chance to come back as an Assistant Leader!

Step 1: You MUST do as many projects and activities as you can!!! Make sure you document your activities with pictures and signed report forms!

Step 2:  Fill out and complete activity report forms Typing out your forms is the best way to keep your records neat.  Download the report forms and save onto your computer so you can type and print out.  Be sure to give a detailed description of your activities!

Step 3: Create your very own Book of Accomplishments Compile all of your report forms and pictures and get creative!  Putting all of your records into a scrapbook is the best way to impress the judges.  However, notebook binders will do the job.  Use lots of color and decorations to spice up your book, and remember that neatness and creativity will earn you even more points.  See the educational activity values sheet for points and instructions on how to arrange your book.  Check out the Book of Accomplishments link for ideas of how to create and decorate your book.

Step 4: Submit your book by April 1st!!!
You can mail or bring your book to the Texas Brigades office in San Antonio.  If mailing your book, it must be postmarked no later than April 1st.

Step 5: Wait for results.  Once the books have been submitted camp committee members will judge the books and add up the points.  The top 4 -6 cadets with the highest number of points will be invited back to camp to serve as an Assistant Leader and will receive a scholarship for college!  You will be notified on the results soon after the committee meeting.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Do at least one activity from every category for extra points.
  • Call up another cadet and do a project together.
  • Write an article about camp and submit it to a wildlife publication.
  • Set up your tri-fold at the local feed store, vet clinic, or library.
  • Give a presentation or talk to your Ag or science classes, or organizations in which you are involved.
  • Make a plant collection (use heavy books to press plants or scan them).
  • Participate in county fairs or 4-H photo and art contests.
  • Get a couple of your friends interested and help them apply to camp.
  • Be creative!  Use colorful scrapbook paper, stickers, and decorations.
  • Type report forms and be neat and organized.
  • Have fun and you will motivate others by your enthusiasm!
